Pilot action
E-Repair Area in the Wiederschön Concept Store Leipzig
The pilot action will be implemented in the Wiederschön Concept Store, operated by City Cleaning Department Leipzig. It complements the concept store, which is part of the policy instrument, and will contribute to its further development. Wiederschön is a centre for sustainability and social engagement. It aims to create a tangible model for circular economy and conscious consumption. By integrating existing reuse and repair initiatives, the concept store broadens its offerings in meaningful ways.
The creation of a dedicated area for repair services during opening hours and workshops to promote sustainability and environmental awareness is at the heart of this initiative. The specific nature of the pilot action is to assess the effectiveness of repair services and workshops in engaging the local community in the city centre of Leipzig. It will provide practical approaches for repairing everyday electronics and run upcycling workshops.
The pilot project will be inspired by the Repair Café good practice model in Navarra, Spain. We plan to involve our Spanish partner as a consultant to help us implement and run the pilot. A key aspect will be the establishment of a repair area where community members can learn repair skills from experienced professionals. This educational component will not only provide participants with practical experience but will also facilitate the transfer of knowledge from skilled craftsmen to the local community.
In addition, it aims to combat the pervasive throwaway culture by promoting a circular economy model. By collaborating with existing and new initiatives focused on repair and sustainability, the project will raise awareness of waste prevention, resource conservation and environmental protection.
The pilot will involve various stakeholders, including local government, environmental organisations, educational institutions and the local community fostering sustainability networks in Leipzig.
