Pilot action
PLYA (Personalized support in Project Learning for Young Adults) in Empoli - Tuscany
Anci Toscana will test a pilot program based on the Slovenian practice "Personalized support in Project Learning for Young Adults" (PLYA): a community initiative based on the enhancement of practical and creative skills to underpin potential employment/education pathways.
The pilot program will involve 10 NEETs (15 - 29) in weekly activities for up to 7 months in a voluntary and flexible manner. Eligible youths such as failed students, school dropouts, or at risk of dropping out, will be referred by local schools, educational centres, social work centres, social cooperatives, and PES. The referred youths will be engaged in activities such as workshops designed around their preferences and ideas to be held at a physical centre made available by the Empoli Municipality in a vulnerable area to ensure a safe, inclusive environment.
The key components of this pilot program will be:
1. Individualized learning plans for personal and educational growth
2. Work projects in groups to build skills, share ideas and be part of the community
3. Interest-based activities like podcast, music, and open areas activities
4. Production work: linking the above to experience in various professions through hands-on projects
The pilot will integrate the support of local professionals from the social, educational and employment fields that will enable such holistic and individualized approach, through which participants will acquire social skills, self-awareness, empowerment, and resilience.
The main goals of the pilot program are: motivate participants to continue education, finish some kind of formal education, get a job.
Consistently with the Slovenian program, the pilot impact will be measured qualitatively (increased motivation) and quantitatively (participants entering the labour market or continuing education).
Finally, thanks to this pilot, Anci Toscana will improve the integrated territorial networks for NEETs work inclusion through policy improvements.
